That’s not a fantasy — street painters will tell you that its as real as it could be. Born out of paints, creativity, and a clever concept of angles, street art today is reigning the world of three-dimensional optical illusions.
Street painting, as such , has been very much in vogue since the 16th century, especially in Italy, where street artists were popularly called madonnari,as they mostly based their paintings on the Madonna.This traditional art form, suppressed during the world wars, emerged to its former popularity in 1972 with the first International Street Painting Competition held at Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. But it was unarguably American painter Kurt Wenner, who revolutionized this art by developing an all-new anamorphic style of street painting.
Master street artists like Julian Beever and Gary Palmer followed in his illustrated footsteps. Indeed,to endow a flat medium with length, breadth and height, is no mean job! Today street painting has a huge fan following, especially because of its greater reach to the common man. And now thanks to an online community called the Street Painting Society, this art form has captured the netizens as well.
